Bear
05:24
|
|||
(by Peter Silberman)
There's a bear inside your stomach
A cub's been kicking from within
He's loud, though without vocal cords
We'll put an end to him
We'll make all the right appointments
No one ever has to know
And then tomorrow I'll turn twenty-one
We'll script another show
We'll play charades up in the Chelsea
Drink champagne although you shouldn't be
We'll be blind and dumb until we fall asleep
None of our friends will come, they dodge our calls
And they have for quite awhile now
It's not a shock, you don't seem to mind
And I just can't see how
We're too old
We're not old at all
Just too old
We're not old at all
There's a bear inside your stomach
A cub's been kicking you for weeks
And if this isn't all a dream
Well then we'll cut him from beneath
Well we're not scared of making caves
Or finding food for him to eat
We're terrified of one another
And terrified of what that means
But we'll make only quick decisions
And you'll just keep me in the waiting room
And all the while I'll know we're fucked
And not getting un-fucked soon
When we get home we're bigger strangers
Than we've ever been before
You sit in front of snowy television
Suitcase on the floor
We're too old
We're not old at all
Just too old
We're not old at all

Such Great Heights
03:21
|
|||
(by Ben Gibbard)
I am thinking it's a sign
That the freckles in our eyes
Are mirror images
And when we kiss they're perfectly aligned
And I have to speculate
That God himself did make
Us into corresponding shapes
Like puzzle pieces from the clay
And true, it may seem like a stretch
But it's thoughts like this that catch
My troubled head when you're away
When I am missing you to death
When you are out there on the road
For several weeks of shows
And when you scan the radio
I hope this song will guide you home
They will see us waving from such great heights
"Come down now," they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away
"Come down now," but we'll stay
I tried my best to leave
This all on your machine
But the persistent beat
It sounded thin upon listening
And that frankly will not fly
You will hear the shrillest highs
And lowest lows with the windows down
When this is guiding you home
They will see us waving from such great heights
"Come down now," they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away
"Come down now," but we'll stay

Agnes
06:37
|
|||
(by Dave Bayley)
Agnes, just stop and think a minute
Why don't you light that cigarette and
Calm down now, stop and breathe a second?
Go back to the very beginning
Can't you see what was different then?
You were just popping Percocet
Maybe just four a week at best
Maybe a smoke to clear the head
Your head is so numb, that nervous breath you try to hide
Between the motions, that trembling tender little sigh
And so it goes, a choking rose back
To be reborn, I want to hold you like you're mine
You see the sad in everything
A genius of love and loneliness and
This time, you overdid the liquor
This time, you pulled the fucking trigger
These days, you're rolling all the time
So low, so you keep getting high
Where went that cheeky friend of mine?
Where went that billion-dollar smile?
Guess life is long when soaked in sadness
On borrowed time from Mister Madness
And so it goes, a choking rose back
To be reborn, I want to hold you like you're mine
You're gone but you're on my mind
I'm lost but I don't know why

To You
03:59
|
|||
(by Andy Shauf)
Jeremy can we talk a minute?
I've got some things that I need to
Get off of my chest
I know that we have had a few
And it's far too late
But if I wait I might never tell you
Can we find somewhere quiet?
Let's go outside
I've got some smokes if you've got a light
It's just that sometimes when I'm by your side
It feels so right
It feels like nothing could go wrong
Does it ever
Feel like that to you?
Does it ever
Feel like that to you?
Oh I don't know what I mean
It sounded wrong and I'm just tired
Not being weird
I just mean that you're a good friend
It's hard to explain
Just forget I said anything
Get over yourself
I'm not in love with you
It just came out all wrong
Yeah
Tell the guys and laugh it up
Why am I even surprised?
That it never
Feels like that to you
That it never
Feels like that to you
I guess it never
Feels like that to you
I guess it never
Feels like that to you

Stellate
04:32
|
|||
(by Samia Finnerty)
I'll hold you from your small
How about that? How about that?
You made me medium tall
I'll make you feel good again
You made your car a vacuum
You pulled over too
So when you let me out
I owed my life to you
I wanna get you sedated
Like when it all began
I wanna play you records I like
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna let it all go
I swear, I swear I do
Show me where you are stellate
I'll stick the needle through
You know it
But I can say it for you
And when the heat showed up
You couldn't open the door
I locked myself in and laid
Down on the kitchen floor
I put one of your vellum
Between my face and yours
So through the vellum
You'd discern my face from yours
You know it
But I can say it for you
I wanna wake you up
Show you the boat I bought
I wanna go sailing with you
To someplace we are not
You buy me a big bucket
I scream into that
And when it overflows
You want your money back
You know it
But I can say it for you
